Tucked in beside the London shopping Meccas of Oxford Circus and Covent Garden where the upbeat atmosphere means it always feels like the weekend, Holborn, by day at least, has a more serious feel. It is best well known for housing the Royal Courts of Justice, the Inns of Court and the London School of Economics.
Step out of Holborn tube at 9am and the place is awash with pinstripes suits, the focus being on nothing but getting into work on time. Thankfully by 6pm a much more relaxed feel takes over the area as the Holborn bars and pubs begin to full up. The ethos ‘work hard play hard’ is certainly followed in this part of town with local boozers making sure they’re up to the mark with a good selection of ales and food provided.
Holborn Scene
At night, the scene is dominated by the local lawyers and students who mingle in the many London pubs and bars on offer. Holborn is also well known for being home to gig venue ‘The Fly’ which hosts live music every night of the week. If the post-work pub scene gets too much, head to ‘Volupte’, Holborn’s very own cabaret club.
