Ten of London's museums and cultural instituions get togther to celebrate the launch of the new East London Line extension.

The opening of the new East London Line extension is something of a divisive point for local residents. On the one hand, it'll open up previously rather inaccessible parts of Hackney and Dalston, but then on the other, there's something quite nice about being a part of something separate from the rest of London.
For local businesses however it's clearly a good thing. And ten London museums have got together to launch a partnership that celebrates the opening of the East London Line extension. CultureLine is a collaboration between ten institutions that run the length of the new line. From north to south along the line, these are: Hackney Museum, Geffrye Museum [pictured], Wesley's Chapel, the Royal London Hospital Museum, Whitechapel Gallery, the Women's Library, Brunel Museum, Horniman Museum, Crystal Palace Museum and the Museum of Croydon.
CultureLine offers an alternative – a brilliant alternative – to the usual central London names, which can sometimes be rather expensive and overcrowded. Whilst places like the Whitechapel Gallery are already pretty prominent, the new line will help to raise the profile (and number of visitors) for criminally under-appreciated institutions like the utterly wonderful Geffrye Museum, a kind of paean to domestic interior design throughout the ages.
David Dewing, Director of the Geffrye Musem said: “The new overground line is here at last! Hoxton station is right outside the Geffrye Museum and we anticipate a significant increase in numbers coming to the museum as a result of the new line. We have no doubt it will have a massive impact on the economy of this part of east London.”
