Barbican to open two new dining spaces

Mouthwatering food comes to the Barbican in September. Our half-starved Arts Team are getting pretty darned excited already.

If there's anything better than a nice wee bit of culture, then it's a massive delicious dinner. To this end, the clever folks at the Barbican have just announced that they're planning to open two brand new dining spaces in September.

The Barbican Foodhall is like a big old deli/street market, selling all manner of sundry deliciousness – olives, oils, chesses, chutneys, posh pasties, oh god we're getting hungry just thinking about it... Meanwhile, the Barbican Lounge specialises in an array of small dishes of delight – like pork pie and Garlic Farm relish and Lochmuir salmon, Merguez sausages with saffron aioli, and pissaladière with anchovies and olives. *dribbles embarassingly over the keyboard*

General Manager Nikki Woods describes the project as “a haven for foodies. The concept is to create a destination for people who have a genuine love of food. Our menu is filled with moreish small plates, so guests no longer have to suffer food envy or make any difficult decisions. You can try a little bit of everything…and then just order a little bit more if you fancy!”

Meanwhile Barbican Centre MD Sir Nicholas Kenyon says: “We’re really excited about the transformation of our food offering. The spaces are being stripped right back to the original wall textures and fittings, so it really feels like a natural and organic development of our iconic centre.”

And basically – apart from his use of the horrible word iconic – we couldn't agree more. Delicious food, theatre, art, music – the Barbican just got even better. Bring. It. On.

The Barbican Food Hall and Barbican Lounge open on 14th September 2010.
