Calling all artists! Your chance to win a grand, and exhibit at an influential London gallery.

Anthology

In news that will come as something of a blessing to beleaguered artists everywhere, Charlie Smith London has announced the launch of a brand new art prize, in association with re-title.com. Artists worldwide are invited to submit their work to 'Anthology' in order to be in with a chance of winning a cash prize of £1,000 and a place in the resulting exhibition, scheduled to take place at the Old Street gallery in August 2011.

Ten finalists will be chosen by a highly respected committee of judges, comprising critic Paul Carey-Kent, collector Werner Grub, and curator/critics Edward Lucie-Smith and Roy Exley. Charlie Smith's director, Zavier Ellis, is in the chair, and the winner of the cash, provided by philanthropic collector Mark Clannachan, will be announced at the private view on 4th August 2011.

Anthology acts as a natural extension of Zavier's art practice, which already includes major shows like The Future Can Wait, with Simon Rumley and Polemically Small, with Edward Lucie-Smith. As he tells Spoonfed, “I hope from my general activities you can see I like to think of alternative ways of showing, promoting and interacting with art outside of a straight run of gallery artist shows. I suppose one could think of it as a ripple with my gallery artists at the centre; then artists exhibited at the gallery; then artists I collaborate with on other off-site shows.”

With arts funding about to get seriously tight, this is a great opportunity for talented artists to pick up some much needed funds, but it's also much more than that. As Zavier explains “just looking at the jury, the artists will gain exposure to some very important people in the critical world as well as two very good collectors. In the long term if we establish this as an annual show then I hope that we will have a very good list of winners to look back on, and so it’s the only way to become part of that.”

To enter Anthology, submit six jpegs of available work at no more than 1MB, an artist's statement no longer than 500 words and a full artist's CV in Word or PDF format to anthology@charliesmithlondon.com. There is a processing fee of £10 + VAT.

Anthology will be at Charlie Smith London from 5th-20th August 2011.
