The life of London's finest dandy, Sebastian Horsley, comes to the Soho Theatre this June. Probably the best thing to happen in a theatre in years.

Finally! It's the news we've all been waiting for. Soho dandy, artist, author, sex columnist and Comme des Garçons model Sebastian Horsley is taking to the stage at long last. Well, strictly speaking, he's actually not, but this is the next best thing. Horsley's grittily fabulous 2007 autobiography Dandy in the Underworld has been adapted into play form and is coming to the Soho Theatre in London this June.
The notorious Sebastian Horsley has done many things in his life. He's swum with sharks, slept with a thousand prostitutes, been addicted to crack, been addicted to smack, invented a shirt at Turnbull & Asser, won a million and lost a million, and, most famously, crucified himself in the Philippines while Sarah Lucas filmed it. This was all documented in excruciatingly entertaining detail in Dandy in the Underworld, and now, even those too lazy to read can get their little hit of Horsley.
Dandy in the Underworld has been adapted by Tim Fountain, probably best known for works about other dissident types like Quentin Crisp and Julie Birchill and it stars Milo Twomey, fresh from an 18-month global tour playing Alex in Kneehigh's production of Brief Encounter.
Sebastian Horsley himself said: "I have been trying for some time to develop a lifestyle that doesn't require my presence. It seems I have finally been successful." Of the choice of Twomey to star, Horsley is typically understated: “He is a charming fellow, very handsome and so clever. He models himself on me. I thought the play was intellectual: i.e. no one strips, but I’ve just heard there is a nude scene, which cheers me up – I’m from Hull. He’s got to be satanic and sexy – oh, and as there's a nude scene – have an unfeasibly large penis. The penis de Milo.” Ladies and gentlemen, Sebastian Horsley!
Dandy in the Underworld is at the Soho Theatre from 9th June to 10th July 2010.
