As things get heated in the run up to May 6th, the art world auctions off glitter portraits of the politians.

Forget the policies, the debates, Gordon Brown accidentally calling a pensioner “bigoted”, Clegg harping on about “broken promises” in his abysmal party election broadcast or David Cameron ratcheting up the smarminess an extra notch: what the public all really want to know, what we all really need to know at this late stage in the game is whose portrait would win the highest bid in an art auction?
Cameron's, apparently. Newbloodart.com, the London-based art gallery website recently commissioned Steven Barrett to paint all three political leaders along with BNP leader Nick Griffin. And what stunners they are. A poll of modern art collectors has so far placed the dazzlingly blue glitter portrait of David Cameron ahead of the game. His pensive profile will currently set you back £360. Nick Clegg isn't far behind – in second place, his portrait, with deep furrowed brows, lined cheek hollows and rather comical shadowing is up for a respectable £305. Known perhaps more for his substance than style, poor Gordon is currently hanging in there at third place with a bid of £270. Nick Griffin brings up the rear with a pathetic fiver, way below the reserve price of £50.
With another week to go, there's still all to play for however, and the bidding on the art auction will continue right up until the eve of the general election. We might not be able to trust them, but by god can we have a laugh looking at them. If only all elections were this compelling and this glittery.
