Frieze Art Fair

When: 14th-17th October 2010
Where: Regent's Park
How much: from £10 to £25

Every October Frieze Art Fair plonks its big self down in Regent's Park for four days of contemporary art buying, selling and cogitation. Started in 2003 by Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover, the publishers of Frieze magazine, Frieze Art Fair is one of the major art events in the international contemporary art calendar; it's primarily aimed at buyers, but for £15 is an enjoyable day out for any vaguely cultural person.

Frieze Art Fair features more than 150 contemporary art galleries, each with their own stand from which to peddle their wares to the world's richest and most influential art collectors. As well as the obvious sales element, Frieze Art Fair also features a packed programme of events, performances, special commissions and artists' projects.

Because Frieze Art Fair attracts important artists, gallerists, collectors, curators and critics from all over the world, London's art world really comes alive during Frieze week. Parties, art fairs and exhibitions spring up across the capital as everyone competes for the attention of the movers and shakers. The whole thing can feel a little overwhelming at times, but there are few better ways to gauge the state of the contemporary art market. And there's always a buzz about – a buzz caused by the collision of art, hope and money.

Frieze Art Fair is in Regent's Park from 14th – 17th October 2010.
