Hauser & Wirth and Sadie Coles both announce the opening of new galleries this October.

Two of the biggest of London's contemporary art big shots are opening new galleries this October. Both Hauser & Wirth and Sadie Coles have recently announced that they'll be opening new spaces in prime locations within weeks of each other.

First up, Sadie Coles is opening a new gallery on 6th October on Burlington Place just off Regent Street. Sadie's launching the 5,000 square foot space with an exhibition of new sculptural work by Swiss contemporary artist Urs Fischer.

Then just the week after, Hauser & Wirth are opening their new gallery on London's tailoring Mecca, Savile Row. The massive 15,000 square foot gallery opens to the public on 15th October with an exhibition of fabric works by Louise Bourgeois. Originally intented as a solo show, the tone of the exhibition will surely have altered following the sad news of the artist's death back in May.

Given various worries across London's cultural sectors concerning their long-term financial future, these bold statements of intent from two of contemporary art's biggest hitters demonstrate that, for parts of the commercial sector at least, all looks relatively rosy.
