Just the week after Frieze has taken itself to bits and left Regent's Park to recover for another year, hot in its heels comes Inside Out Festival. For exhausted arts editors October sure is a tough old month. Lucky then that Inside Out is really cool.

Curated by the London Centre for Arts and Cultural Exchange (LCACE) and presented in association with New Statesman, the aim is to showcase the impact that London's art colleges and universities have on the cultural life of the capital. Nine institutions – including Goldsmith's, Central St Martins, London College of Fashion and the Courtauld – are throwing open their doors for a host of public events, like film screenings, exhibitions, talks and performances.

The variety of events for 2010 is truly impressive: from the family-friendly Big Draw at Goldsmith's to an exhibition inspired by Terminator or a debate about the literature of New Labour, there really is something for everyone.

Sally Taylor, Inside Out Festival Director, said: “There is certainly no shortage of festivals in London but this is an arts festival with a distinct twist. The sheer breadth of talent in the nine universities involved is staggering... This year’s Inside Out Festival will be a feast - a cultural ‘pick and mix’ - for bright thinkers and art lovers, young and old.”
