Line-ups, updates and news for Lambeth Open 2010.

With the demise of Shoreditch as a genuine creative hub, those interested in such things are keen to work out where the next cultural hotspot will spring up. And the answer seems to be: everywhere. Hackney and Dalston are thriving (or already all over, depending on your point of view); Deptford is awash with exciting new galleries; Peckham too; and New Cross; whilst Hackney Wick claims more artists per capital than anywhere else in the world.
But what of Lambeth? Lambeth is occasionally – and unjustly – overlooked, but not any more. Now in its second year, Lambeth Open is a two-day event taking place across the borough this October, and seeks to open up the area to a whole new audience. Artists and crafts people are opening their studios, work spaces and even their homes to the public, whilst many of the area's galleries and arts institutions are also hosting a range of exhibitions and events.
Highlights include silk screen printing demonstrations at London Print Works, Sunara Begum's show at 198 [pictured above], and 401 studios opening up their amazing workshops, housed in an old Victoria warehouse.
Originator, artist and organiser Tim Sutton says, “the idea is so simple, and it’s a great way to discover new artists and find out what makes them tick. Lambeth is packed full of creative people and we really should be showing this off to the rest of London.”
