Mulberry team up with photographer Venetia Dearden to celebrate 40 years of Glastonbury.

Mulberry

“Peace, Love and Mud” – as a slogan it might not be quite up there with “Peace, Bread and Land” but then the latter helped get Lenin's Bolsheviks into power in 1917, and communists have always been rather adept at a spot of sloganeering. Anyway, let's not get political, not yet at least...

“Peace, Love and Mud” is the festival slogan of London-based luxury goods brand Mulberry, who like many a festival fan, are celebrating the 40th anniversary of Glastonbury this year. In order to show their love for the venerable Eavis institution, the ever-wonderful Mulberry are holding an exhibition of photography in their flagship store on Bond Street.

The images on display are by contemporary photographer Venetia Dearden (who shoots for the likes of Vogue, Wallpaper and W) and the exhibition also marks the publication of her new book, Glastonbury, Another Stage, also sponsored by Mulberry. Glastonbury, Another Stage consists of an array of portraits of Glastonbury visitors, artists and performers that Dearden has been taking since 2004. By setting up a portable studio, the artist has managed to capture the energy, romance and diversity of the UK's most famous festival.

Mulberry and Glastonbury may not seem the most obvious of bedfellows – in Spoonfed's Festival Kit List Lowri recommends you “take nothing you couldn’t bear to come home without, except your best mates”. But increasingly people want to look their best at festivals. And there's no better accessory than Alexa or Barnaby for looking chic in muddy fields, or perhaps the Piccadilly for carrying your whole weekend's festival paraphernalia.

As well as the exhibition at the Bond Street store, Mulberry are also hosting a party in the Sony Space, Cocktails and Dreams, at Glastonbury 2010. During the festival, Dearden will carry on taking photographs of willing festival-goers and uploading the images to the Mulberry website. Copies of Glastonbury, Another Stage purchased either in-store or online will come in a rather snazzy festival-friendly hemp bag, stamped with the Mulberry festival slogan – “Peace, Love and Mud”. Cool, huh?
