Noemie Goudal announced as Corinthia Hotel artist in residence

Good news! We love good news.

Dan Stevens, Ed Vaizey, Noemie Goudal

One of Spoonfed's favourite contemporary artists – the wonderful Noemie Goudal – has been unveiled today as the inaugural artist in residence at the recently opened Corinthia Hotel. The decision was announced at an appropriately sparkly lunch-time bash at the hotel, which unfortunately we forgot to attend. Oops!

What we missed was a smorgasbord of the great and the good – including the blandest man in politics, Ed Vaizey, housewives' favourite, lovely Dan Stevens out of Downton Abbey, and Ben Evans, Director of the London Design Festival, all of whom were on the seven-strong panel of judges.

Despite the odd mix of judges (we got in trouble last time we described a judging panel as a “motley crew”) they've come up with an excellent choice. We've been smitten with Ms Goudal's work ever since we saw her first solo show, a Crystal Bennes-curated exhibition in a disused building on the Clerkenwell Road. Since then her work has been everywhere – the Catlin Art Prize, Hoxton Art Gallery, Cob Studios – so it's excellent news that she's getting a month at the Corinthia to make some new work.

We also love the Corinthia, having reviewed one of its restaurants, the Northall, shortly after it opened. So for Spoonfed at least, this is one piece of art world news that we're rather delighted about.
