Dining with Alice - Artichoke

When: 6th-21st May 2011
Where: Norwich
How much: events individually priced

Established waaaaaay back in 1772, the Norfolk and Norwich Festival is an international arts festival that takes place in the town of Norwich for 16 days every May. It was during the mid-1990s under director Marcus Davey (who now runs The Roundhouse) that the festival grew to the scale that it is today – with a packed programme of events and activities across music, theatre, dance, visual arts, events for children and open studios for local artists.

Originally established to support the building of the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, the festival has traditionally been associated with classical music – world premieres by Elgar, Spohr, Bliss and Vaughan Williams have all been held here. But in recent years, more contemporary names have featured – the likes of Philip Glass, Michael Nyman, John Cale and Laurie Anderson. These days, under the creative direction of William Galinsky, it's one of the most diverse and dynamic arts festivals in the UK.

For 2011 there's a typically broad range of cultural activities. We're particularly looking forward to Artichoke's production of Dining with Alice, in association with Sky Arts HD. A fully immersive theatrical experience taking place in the grounds of Elsing Hall, the adventure consists of the Mad Hatter's tea party brought thrillingly to life, with food provided by the ever-innovative Bompas & Parr.
