Norwegian Guerilla Gardening at the London Festival of Architecture

Ever wondered what moss graffiti is? Or Guerilla Gardening for that matter? PUSHAK at The Architecture Foundation has all the answers.

Let's face it, unless you're of a certain age with the onset of arthritic knees just on the horizon, you probably won't truly appreciate the joys of gardening. Until now that is. This summer, all female Norwegian architectural practice, PUSHAK, will create a guerilla gardening installation for The Architecture Foundation set to wow the green-fingered and plenty more besides, with a spectacular show of moss graffiti and moss landscapes.
The installation, which runs from 19th June to 6th August will be unveiled as part of the London Festival of Architecture. Apparently guerilla gardening is a form of political gardening and is usually the past-time pursuit of environmentalists: the activists take over neglected or disused land and cultivate it with their crop-growing know-how. With this in mind, PUSHAK's design aims to bring awareness to the big issues of climate change and natural and human resources.
The installation forms part of the Architecture Foundation's international exchange programme linking the most innovative emerging architects in the UK and Norway. PUSHAK was one of three shortlisted up-and-coming Norwegian architectural practices asked to submit proposals for the installation. The moss encrusted structure will fit in nicely with another of this year's predicted festival highlights, the Bankside Urban Forest, an exciting green project to improve the area south of the Thames.
PUSHAK at The Architecture Foundation runs from 19th June- 6th August.
