In the first of a new series, we select the five best talks, readings, lectures, debates and other wordy-based events taking place across London in the month ahead.

Talks

Wednesday 9th March

Poetry Reading @ Centre for Creative Collaboration
Free, 6pm
Professor of Cultural Geography at Royal Holloway, Tim Cresswell, and award-winning poet Adam O'Riordan kick off a series of free events at the Centre for Creative Collaboration, as part of Royal Holloway's annual literary festival.

Wednesday 16th March
A Journey into Outer Space @ Royal Geographical Society
£30, 6pm
This looks way cool: a discussion of the history and future of the universe, and mankind's position within it. With Astronomer Royal Martin Rees, astronaut Charles Simonyi, biographer Richard Holmes, leader of Beagle 2, Colin Pillinger, and every housewife's favourite science guy, that nice Brian Cox off the telly, this should be a fascinating evening.

Saturday 19th March
Radical Publishing @ ICA
£12, 12pm
A series of afternoon panel discussions at the ICA exploring the relationship between protest and print, in light of the recent student protests. Pamphlets, journals, polemical articles can both incite radicalism and crystallise its purposes: a range of well-placed speakers – including representatives from wicked alternative publishers like Verso and Zero Books – discuss the issues.

Saturday 19th March
Public Knowledge Panel Discussion @ Cubitt
Free, 2.30pm
The third in a series of events by London-based contemporary artist Ruth Beale at Cubitt Gallery this March. After looking at various issues surrounding the problematisation of the archive. On the 19th a series of speakers discuss the importance of the library as a place for the storage and dissemination of information, and the future of such institutions in a digital age.

Wednesday 30th March
Eyes on the Stars – Space as Inspiration @ Royal Society
Free, 7pm
A discussion about the legacy of the Cold War space race – scientific, artistic and, more broadly, across the general consciousness. Taking part are: playwright Rona Munro (whose latest play tells the story of the chief Soviet space designer), Open University's Professor of Space Science, John Zarnecki, and NASA astronaut (and six-times spacewalker) Dr Piers Sellers. Awesome.
