Ornament in Contemporary Art and Architecture @ ICA
£12, 6.45pm
Programmed to complement Pablo Bronstein's brilliant show, the ICA hosts an exploration of ornamentation and decoration in contemporary art and architecture. Craft theorist and V&A curator, Glenn Adamson, architect Sam Jacob from FAT, architectural theorist Charles Jencks and transvestite potter Grayson Perry discuss the issues at hand.
Friday 2nd September
Double Exposure @ Royal Academy
£16, 6.30pm
At the same time as the Royal Academy's intriguing Eyewitness exhibition of twentieth century photography comes an evening of readings and poems that explore the medium. As you'd expect, the RA has enlisted some pretty big names – Prunella Scales and Timothy West, no less, alongside George Szirtes and Christian Roe.
Thursday 15th September
Quantum theory cannot hurt you @ Royal Institution of Great Britain
£10, 7pm
Billed as a 'crash course' in quantum theory, this evening at the Royal Institution of Great Britain sees science writers and broadcasters Marcus Chown and Manjit Kumar provide an introduction to one of the most complex but fascinating developments in twentieth century science. From Einstein's suggestion that light is a particle to Heisenberg's uncertainty principle and Schrodinger's cat, expect some weird and wonderful discoveries.

Great Food @ V&A Reading Rooms
Free, 7pm
Oh this sounds fun! Penguin's Great Food series features food writing and recipes from over the past four hundred years, and this evening editor Pen Vogler is at the V&A to discuss the process. In addition, you get to taste cake and biscuit recipes from as far back as 1615 and have to try and guess the ingredients. Otters' noses, ocelots' spleens...?
22nd September
Can science-inspired art lead to a new 21st century culture? @ GV Art
Free, 6.30pm
In recent years, the gradual coming together of the arts and the sciences has been one of the major developments in contemporary art. Places like GV Art are at the forefront of this new direction, and their current exhibition, Art & Science, is something of a summation of everything that gallery has been doing since it opened back in 2008. This discussion explores the issues raised in the show, and all the artists are involved – including the brilliant Helen Pynor, Annie Cattrell and David Marron.
