Tuesday 10th July 

John Pilger @ Southbank Centre

One of the world's greatest living journalists shares his views on geopolitics as past of London Literature Festival. As a war correspondant, Pilger has reported form Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Bangaldesh and many other countrires in his career. His latest film War On Democracy, focusing on Latin America, won 'Best Documentary' at the One World Media Awards. Don't miss the chance to hear his views on military intervention, the Middle East and the status of 'The West' in the world today.

Clive Stafford Smith with Jon Snow @ Southbank Centre

Another London Lit Fest event is Clive Stafford-Smith in conversation with Jon Sow. Stafford-Smith is a pioneering human rights lawyer, and his new book, Injustice, is a profound and sometimes terrifying work about the fragility of human freedom. In 1986, Kris Maharaj, a British businessman living in Miami, was arrested for the brutal murder of his ex-business associates Derrick and Duane Moo Young. Clive Stafford-Smith, a young lawyer working for nothing, was determined to untangle the case, which revealed corruption at every turn. Reading at times like a detective thriller, this book is also the story of Stafford-Smith's personal journey to becoming the founder of Reprieve and a global champion of prisoners' rights.

Tongue Fu 5th Birthday @ Rich Mix

A conglomeration of spoken word allstars celebrate five years of Tongue Fu - the performance poetry night housed in Rich mix. There is always an awe-inspiring range of talent, tonight it's punk poetry goddess Salena Godden, sink estate dandy Byron Vincent, all-round lyrical legend Joshua Idehen and Chris Redmond.

Thursday 19th July
In Conversation with Christopher Eccleston @ National Theatre
£4 - £5
An afternoon interview with Christopher Eccleston, talking to Al Senter about his current role in Antigone and his career, and answering your questions. He may be best known for his role as the ninth incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who. Of course other hits include Shallow Grave, 28 Days Later and The Others. He has also had a varied career in the theatre - his current role a case in point. 

Thursday 19th July
Esther Bruce: A Black London Seamstress @ National Portrait Gallery
Free
The National Portrait Gallery continue their lectrure series, focusing on Londoners of old - all of whom have been immortalised in portrait. Today at 1pm in the Ondaatje Wing Theatre, Esther's nephew, historian Stephen Bourne, tells the story of his aunt and the black Britons she was connected to, including Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Florence Mills and Paul Robeson.
