A new £40 million London hotel plans to let visitors sleep inside a sculpture made by contemporary artist Antony Gormley. How bizarre.
A new London hotel plans to create a bedroom suite that would encase visitors in a sculpture designed by contemporary artist Antony Gormley. According to the Evening Standard, the proposed sculpture is shaped like a crouching man, and has been described by the Turner Prize-winning artist as “both playful and serious, both pragmatic and idealistic”.
The as-yet-unnamed 75 room hotel is apparently costing £40 million and will be located in Balderton Street, just near Bond Street tube station. It's the first foray into hotels by Chris Corbin and Jeremy King, the duo behind the wonderful Wolseley restaurant on Piccadilly.
According to Gormley, the stainless steel sculpture, called 'Habitat', will have "enough room for both a bed, a dressing room and a bathroom in the torso and two thigh areas".
Westminster Council are expected to make their decision on planning permission imminently.
