Spoonfed + Art Licks = an evening of art and adventure in South London.
At Spoonfed we like to think we encourage people to get the most out of London. But sometimes telling people about wicked events can only get you so far; sometimes we like to get the experts to take you by the hand, often literally.
This summer, we're really excited to have teamed up with Art Licks on two of their Peckham Art Tours. Having held the first one on the 10th June, on Friday 8th July Art Licks with Spoonfed will be taking another tour round glamorous Peckham.
Everyone knows there's a thriving art scene going on down in Peckham. But it's dominated, in terms of media coverage at least, by the twin pillars that are South London Gallery and Hannah Barry. There's so much more to Peckham's art scene than that; it just takes a bit of insider knowledge in order to discover it. With community-minded galleries, bustling artists' studios, DIY galleries in the back of pubs and a host of other creatively-minded spaces, projects and people, Peckham is one of the most exciting areas in London right now. And now, thanks to Art Licks, it's easier to visit and experience than before.
Art Licks comprises a website, magazine and regular art tours to act as a guide to London's non-commercial art scene, which seeks out the latest up and coming artist run spaces, collectives, curatorial groups, exhibitions and non profit galleries or organisations.
The next Art Licks tour with Spoonfed takes place on Friday July 8th and the tour will include around five galleries and studios in the Peckham area. For each tour, Art Licks arranges for the artist, curator or gallerist to be on site to meet with the group and discuss the ideas and programmes for their initiatives. It should be a brilliant evening, but numbers are extremely limited, so please email alice@spoonfed.co.uk with the subject line 'Art Licks tour – Peckham'.
This event is a continuation of Spoonfed’s Art on the Outskirts - a loose series of events that began in early 2010 as an experiment to highlight the wealth of exciting artist communities and projects happening outside the mainstream commercial galleries in London.
