The London Eye Turns Ten Today

The London Eye celebrates its tenth birthday today with an impressive light show and ticket reductions throughout March.

London Eye

The London Eye has dominated the Capital’s skyline for a decade. During that time, The Eye has welcomed a staggering 36 million visitors aboard to enjoy the London panorama from breathtaking heights. With more than 45,000 rotations, 433 weddings and over 3,000 celebrity visits under its belt, Merlin Entertainment's London Eye now stands alongside heritage sites like the Taj Mahal and the Statue of Liberty as one of the most popular worldwide visitor attractions.

Not bad for a structured that was originally only intended to stand on the Southbank for five years and attract 1.5 million visitors a year. Launched in 2000 as an integral part of the capital’s Millennium celebrations, the initial lease on the Eye, the tallest cantilevered observation wheel in the world (who'd have thought it!) has been extended to 2025.

For one night only, from 7pm today, all visitors to the London Eye can marvel at an impressive light show spectacular, while anyone with a flight booked during this time will receive a complementary glass of Pommery Champagne to sip as they kick back and watch the illuminated skyline.

Other events scheduled to mark the Eye’s ten years at the top include a limited allocation of 10am celebratory birthday flights every morning throughout March, available at the reduced price of £10.
