The Tramshed showcases high-end design as part of this year's London Design Festival.

When: 22-26 September 2010
Where: Rivington Street, Shoreditch
How much: Free
It'll soon be time for the London Design Festival to collect all its design goodness and feed it to us on a perfectly crafted platter of artistic delight. This year The Tramshed plays host as the festival's premier destination with twenty-five design brands exhibiting in one space.
The former power station will be inhabited by high-end authentic design in the form of installations, glass sculptures, furniture, delicate accessories and lighting, and will feature premium brands such as Benchmark, Studioilse, Scin, Autoban and Decode.
The exhibition is full to the brim with sophisticated and interesting work but not afraid to delve into the couture side of the design world. In keeping with this, 'The Dwelling Lab' is a magnificent sculpture by Patricia Urquiola and Giulio Ridolfo, where huge cone-like structures seem to grow out of a car's body.
There'll also be a series of design debates, demonstrations and discussions taking place throughout the week, with the aim of exploring the new direction for design in the 21st century. The talks kick off with a fascinating discussion called 'Can design make us more human?', noting how designers and architects can create better places to live by addressing the physical and mental needs of people.
Ending the series of talks is the dynamically named 'Tramshed Bicycle Extravaganza', which poses the question of whether the bicycle can be improved upon. So bring your bike along, by all means, but don't expect to be getting any repairs.
