Turner Prize shortlist announced. Let the controversy commence!

Yes, it’s that time of year again, when everyone gets all up in arms about the vacuity of conceptual art: the 2012 Turner Prize shortlisted has been announced. The four contemporary artists vying for the £25,000 first prize are: drum roll please... Spartacus Chetwynd, Luke Fowler, Paul Noble and Elizabeth Price.
After last year’s trip up north to BALTIC in Gateshead, 2012 sees the exhibition return to London, opening at Tate Britain in October.
The shortlisted artists were selected by a jury that once again does not include a single art critic, benig made up mostly of directors at various (more or less) prominent art institutions in Zurich, Copenhagen, Oxford and, um, Southend-on-Sea. Tate director 'St' Nicholas Serota also returns to the panel after a bit of an absence, alongside Tate Britain's Penelope Curtis.
This year's main story? The favourite has a funny name: yes, Spartacus Chetwynd used to be called Lali until she changed her name on her 33rd birthday. That's probably enough to garner a headline or two these days...
