The internet comes to life along the banks of the Thames.

This November some of the most visited parts of London are being transformed by a bold new arts project that fuses light, water and some rather snazzy modern technology. As part of DRIFT10, Illuminate Productions are placing a series of innovative installations along the banks of the Thames, outside Tate Modern and beneath the DLR bridge at Canary Wharf.

The centrepiece of the project is entitled bit.fall and consists of a waterfall of lit up words. Each word is being sourced from live news feeds – and are basically the most searched for words on the internet at any given time. So, after having a quick look on Google Trends, expect 'street view', 'walkman', 'gorbachev' and 'mariah carey pregnant' to feature heavily. Yep, it's as we suspected – the internet is a completely baffling place.

Other works include an origami paper boat assembled with help from the public and a wind-powered fog-light emitting an eerie glow across London's eerie wintry nights.

DRIFT10 starts 2nd November 2010 and continues until 8th January 2011.
