MK, DJ Sneak and more set to play the newly refurbed venue.

North East London goes way further than Stoke Newington, you know. If you follow the path out past Seven Sisters, through Walthamstow and on to the captivatingly named Hastingwood Trading Estate, you'll find a beacon of local clubbing tradition: The Warehouse.

Mention the name to anybody who grew up on the East London/Essex borders and they'll tell you tales of plastic furniture, plastic gangsters and plastic boobs. A club whose (admittedly successful) survival strategy was simply to open later than everyone else. Where nouveau local 'slebs mingled with the tired and the desperate. But it seems those days could be behind them, as Warehouse, or Scarehouse as it once was affectionately known, is reportedly taking a new direction.

The first signs are good. The coming months will see the likes of Miguel Campbell, MK, and DJ Sneak at the club. Yep, DJ 'keepin it underground' Sneak. Unsurprisingly considering the area's connections to Essex suburbia, Lee Foss and Danny Daze from the Hot Creations stable will also be making an appearance. The club's also been given a brand new soundsystem to play with which supposedly “will rival any dance club installation in the UK”.

This could go either of two ways. The club could quickly become a place of Purgatory for those used-to-be-cool DJs cast aside by the edgy underground scene. Or on the other hand, does it signal the promising beginnings of a new major London venue? Yes it's two whole bus rides away, but that never bothered anybody driving around the M25 to hear first class house music two decades ago, and with punters becoming increasingly fed up with poor organization and sound quality at many warehouse (small w) parties, could this be the antidote?

There's probably only one way to find out, and that's go. The re-opening party takes place on Bank Holiday weekend and features none other than house legend Kerri Chandler. Or check Spoonfed for listing updates.
