The past present and future sound of house...
Looks like things are still going well down the Kingsland. Earlier in the year we wrote an article on the cluster of parties and venues that were shaping a nice little scene down in Dalston, bringing in top class DJs to play intimate basement parties.
One of those mentioned was the well nifty Hardlife, who've come back at us with a Spoonfed mix from their resident Rob Mathie ahead of their do this Friday with Citizen. Rob was also good enough to have a quick chat with us.
Great booking with Citizen...
We're loving the Madtech stuff, and Citizen's warmup on the Madtech Boiler Room last week had everyone raving on their Facebook page. His style represents a very modern take on classic house sounds which is what we're all about at Hardlife.
Tell us about the mix. Where did you record it?
The mix is a collection of new records that sound like old records and old records that sound like new records, and recorded at [also quite good Dalston party] Thunder HQ. The last track represents everything that's good for house music for me - stripped down jacking Chi-town beats with souful vocal and jazzy keys from all-time favourite Cajual.
What does 2013 hold for Hardlife?
We're going to focus on bringing guests you'd usually see on larger lineups play more intimate and personal venues.
