Deep, deep, deeeeeeep.

This week we go in balls deep with Junk Department resident Luca Pilato.

A member of the south coast's Junk Club family since 2006, Luca has crafted a signature blend of sultry deep and tech house, becoming a rising star of the underground in the process. Recent years have seen him play alongside the likes of DJ Sneak, Kerri Chandler, Heidi and Dyed Soundorom with festival apperances and residencies from Ibizia to Croatia.

After hopping on the decks after Damian Lazarus at last weekend's EE+ afterparty, he's back in the capital this Saturday to team up with Geordie party crew Jaunt for a night at Basing House. If that's not enough, you can also catch Luca at Zoo Project Festival in September. Here’s what the man had to say.

Tell us a bit about the mix

The mix was recorded during the early hours in my house last week, annoying the neighbours so you owe them an apology! haha. The mix reflects what I play during a club set from early doors to the finish. It starts off groovy and deep working up to a heavy finish at the end. I hope you guys enjoy it!

Favourite ever Junk moment?

My favourite Junk moment is such a hard one to choose as there have been so many, but some great recent memories have to be our birthday with Seth Troxler earlier this year – he was top class. Also Junk Department’s recent involvement with Eastern Electrics festival was great and playing after Damian Lazarus was a real privilege. I’m sure the Zoo Project festival will be added to the list of this year’s highlights too!

Speaking of which, who will you be making sure you catch at ZPF this year?

I’ll be sticking with the Junk / Jaunt> stage most of the time as some of my favourite DJs will be playing there including Droog who I saw in Croatia earlier this year – they were so impressive! I’ll also probably pop along to the secretsundaze stage as it’s always great music when those guys are involved especially when the sun shines, which I’m told it will be!

Zoo Project Festival takes place 14-16 September at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, Kent. For more information visit the Zoo Project homepage.
