When: 30 June - 09 July

Where: Various locations

The Congo Now! mini festival celebrates the Democratic Republic of Congo's 50th anniversary of independence with a cultural showcase of music, art and literature. Congolese and British speakers will debate new peace initiatives, Congolese Choirs will raise the rafters with song and the award-winning first Fairtrade quinoa-based vodka will be on tap at a fancy dinner party attended by Amnesty Award Winning Photo-Journalist Susan Schulman.

If you can't make the special "An Introspective of 21st Century DR Congo" dinner on 30th June why not don your trainers and register for the First Official UK Run for Congo Women taking place in Regents Park on July 3rd. 100% of all funds raised will go directly to women in the Congo. In the evening head to the Troxy on Commercial Road for Congo50's Golden Anniversary Musical - an evening of traditional music, dancing, film and fashion.

If political discussion and human rights debates are your kind of thing then the Amnesty International Human Rights Action Centre is holding a panel discussion focusing on the impact of the current conflict in the Congo on women.

On friday 9th July the festival culminates in an evening of cultural activities at the Southbank Centre. In the Front Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Grupo Lokito put on a sizzling performance of Cuban salsa and Congolese rumba while later on in the Purcell Room Congolese poets, writers and performers will discuss and read their work alongside an exhibition of photography from Susan Schulman, Tom Stoddart and Rankin.
