Daniel Kitson to perform at Latitude Festival

The thinking man's festival adds another fab headliner to its comedy bill.

It's already well-known for having one of the best comedy line-ups of any festival in the UK, and this year's already announced acts are no exception. But now those laugh conoisseurs of Latitude Festival have announced their best coup yet - stand-up legend Daniel Kitson.

On his fan mail-out today, Kitson confirmed he is set to repeat the fantastically quirky Stories for the Starlit Sky shows he performed last summer in Regent's Park with whimsical musician/comedian Gavin Osborn.

"We're doing all three Stories for the Starlit Sky, performed on the Waterfront Stage at around midnight on consecutive nights", he said.

Stories for the Starlit Sky, which has run at the Park's Open Air Theatre for three consecutive years to critical acclaim, sees Kitson and Osborn conceive, write and perform three different stories on three different summer nights.

Despite the reputation of Latitude as very much the thinking man's festival, Kitson joked he was still slightly concerned to be back amongst the drunken summer masses.

"I haven't done a music festival since 2000, when I angered some Slipknot fans to the point of bottle-based piss distribution", he said.

Kitson will also perform previews of material for his upcoming Edinburgh show, which he added had been a useful fringe benefit (no pun intended) of taking on the Latitude gig.

"I have tended to dismiss...festivals in July and August as being impossible for me at that time of year, when I am invariably frantic over a new Edinburgh show", he said. "However, at Latitude they've been kind enough to let me do a couple of previews whilst I'm there in the theatre arena."

Apart from Kitson, the comedy line-up at Latitude looks to be the usual quality-driven affair, with the best of the old school and the most interesting of the new. Erudite liberal Robin Ince brings his popular Book Club back from the dead, while acerbic Irish comedian Tommy Tiernan and circuit veteran Arthur Smith will join such up and coming names as Free Agents star Sara Pascoe and Eddie-nominated sketch group Idiots of Ants.

There will also be a rare appearance from Chicago-based comedian Emo Phillips, who hasn't hit UK shores in four years.
