Phew! And here we were thinking we're about to get Coldplay

It seems like Damon Albarn just can’t get enough of Glastonbury these days. After closing the festival to rapturous applause with his old band Blur, it can now be revealed that his new band Gorillaz have been drafted in to take over from U2’s headline Pyramid stage slot on Friday.

Speaking to the Guardian, the band’s  animated bassist Murdoc was quick to talk up his band role as white knights. "We're like some great big horrible warship pulling in to the bay of Glastonbury to save the day. It was us or The Beatles and they split up years ago”, He said, going on to promise that, “Glastonbury will be ours … cutlasses drawn, trumpets ready. We're coming in”.

As you’d expect Mike Eavis is acting like a bloke who lost a fiver and found a tenner. “I'm very excited about Gorillaz' show coming here because they're so open to guests and collaborations. The alchemy of Friday's show is going to be astonishing, a perfect, contemporary way to kick off the 40th anniversary celebrations”  he told the Guardian , "I am so grateful for the enthusiasm of the media and the whole of the music industry for their willingness and eagerness to support us in what could have been a crisis."

No worries Mike, we got you.
