Kings Place Festival

When: 9-12 September 2010
Where: Kings Place, Kings Cross
How much: from £4.50

The third Kings Place Festival takes place this September with a 100 performance spectacular spread across four days. Ever inventive, this year the programme takes in Medieval hip hop (whatever that is), David Bailey sculptures and instruments made of rubbish alongside the usual schedule of contemporary, London jazz, folk and classical music and spoken word events.

Among the music highlights, hotly tipped Chilingirian Quartet will be joining forces with the Millennium Quartet, there's chamber music by Thomas Ades and the finest works of great Baroque composers Purcell and Bach are set to be performed by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. There's also a smattering of home-grown folk performers taking to the stage along with Russian pianist Mikhail Rudy, and an exciting new range of jazz bands are launching a new Saturday jazz night, The Base.

Jenny Eclair, Tom Basden and Rob Deering will be cracking the jokes, The Magpie's Nest have got the storytelling covered and Faber New Poets join Poetry in the City for a spot of everyday verse.

On the art front, Pangolin London presents the first ever exhibition of sculptural work by photographer David Bailey, water sculptures by William Pye will be popping up all over the place, and Kings Place Gallery celebrates the 80th birthday of Anthony Whishaw RA with an exhibition of his new paintings. Meanwhile a farmers' market, with hog-rost taking place on the canalside terrace means vistors won't go hungry.
