The electronic pioneers return for the first live show in a decade - but it will only be one half of them. Lowri Clarke reports.

The brilliant Scottish festival Rockness secured a headline set from Leftfield - the duo who produced seminal album 'Leftism'. But one half of the act Paul Daley has announced that he won't be appearing.

"I'm about to embark on a solo career with the release of my first album, so I've decided I won't be joining Neil on stage for the Leftfield dates this year" says Daley.

Neil Barnes will perform with a collection of musicians - some of whom sang originally on the albums. "The expectation is tremendous and I can't wait to blow everyone away - literally!" says Barnes.

The duo are certainly among the most influential British dance music producers. Their timeless debut trailblazed a path for a whole swathe of '90s dance producers. Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy and Orbital exploded in their wake. It fused dub and techno, made dance music accessible for an entire generation and became the soundtrack to every ravers decade.

With or without Paul Daley, this show is a real coup for Rockness. Festival director Jim King said: "We've been trying to get Leftfield to do some shows for years and now it's actually going to happen. I was fortunate enough to see them 10 years ago and if you think Prodigy are loud just wait till Leftfield kick in."

The Rockness line-up this year is incredible, with some of Ed Banger's golden boys heading up to the loch: Xavier De Rosnay (Justice), Cassius, Busy P and DJ Mehdi will be making the crowds go berserk.

The brilliant German electro producer Boys Noize is also due to play, plus hot drum 'n' bass duo Chase and Status.

Two-day weekend tickets are £130, three day tickets are £149. The festival takes place on the shores of Loch Ness.

More artists are still to be announced.
