Line-ups, updates and news for the London Festival of Architecture 2011.

LFA12

London Architecture Festival, 23 June - 8 July 2011.

The London Festival of Architecture came to life in 2004 as the London Architecture Biennale. The first manifestation of the festival celebrated the architectural diversity of architect mecca Clerkenwell and long horn cows were brought in to recreate the movement of livestock that occured there in bygone centuries. Over the years, the 'biennale' bit may have been dropped, but the animal themes and inventive installations have continued.

This year the Festival will be a celebration of architecture across the whole capital and focuses on the preparations for the 2012 Olympics. Looking at the ways planners, architects and communities are all involved in the development of 'The Playful City', all londoners will be encouraged to take part in projects and debates. Highlights include city tours and bike rides, installations and events popping up across the capital, and something called an Urban Orchard featuring what looks suspiciously like a p[ing pong table in a skip. Splendid.
