They say nothing these days comes for free. Well, that is unless you take into account the annual Radio 1 Big Weekend Festival.  Held in a different location every year, the 2 day long Big Weekend attempts to bring live music to a location otherwise distanced from the entertainment scene.  While tickets are free, priority goes to those living within, or near the host area, with the rest of the tickets being given out at random from those entered into the draw.  On application, you pick which of the two dates appeals to you most and as you can expect, it is always massively over-subscribed so count yourself lucky if you get your hands on those prized tickets!

This year, the festival itself is being held in Carlisle, with the line-up looking to be the best yet.  With the rock legends Foo Fighters heading up the Saturday, the mighty Lady Gaga closes Sunday's festivities.
