Focusing on adventurous electronic acts, Barcelona’s Sónar festival has the advantage of guaranteed sunshine and a continental attitude: no fear of pretension has so far prevented the programming of leftfield experimentation alongside upfront pop and techno. Various advice will suggest forgetting the days in favour of time in bed, or seeking out fringe parties instead of the main, out-of-town shows at night. The canny Sonar-goer however, aims for a mix of mildly cerebral afternoons in the sun, giant-scale warehouse raving and casual enjoyment of one of the best city destinations in Europe.
