The hard rock festival offers a respite from Rammstein in the form of a delightful comedy bill!

Do heavy metal and comedy go together? Evidently. Hard rock festival Sonisphere, whose headline acts so far include Rammstein, Iron Maiden and Slayer, have somewhat oddly announced what looks to be quite a decent comedy line-up.
Headlining the comedy stage this year (or perhaps they're going to slot the comedians in between the bands as their warm-up acts? That we'd like to see) is outstanding Aussie musical comedian Tim Minchin, who won a Perrier for his 2005 Fringe show Dark Side. Supporting are former Never Mind the Buzzcocks team captain Sean Hughes, New Zealand's funniest professional nerd Jarred Christmas and cross-dressing vegan Andrew O'Neill.
The festival, which takes place at Knebworth on the last weekend in July, also features hard core rockers Anthrax, Alice Cooper, Gallows and Alice in Chains. It was last year awarded Best New Festival at the UK Music Festival Awards, although perhaps by branching out into comedy, it's looking to diversify its audience slightly. Either that or the organisers are hoping goth rockers do in fact have a sense of humour.
