It's all crime, murder and mystery at Standon Calling.

Standon Calling Festival has announced their theme for 2010. 'Murder on the Standon Express' takes place from 6th - 8th August, as Hertfordshire plays host to a blood-curdling and decadent event. The festival turns itself into streets of theatre and crime fiction romance; it's all murder, mystery, burlesque cabaret and glamour.

World class food stalls and vintage fairs leave your cup overflowing. Sweeney Todd offers wet shaves and Lord Bingham's personal tailor apparently puts the pizzazz back in your attire. Standon Calling plans to build a network of timber-framed cobbled streets around the chaos and crime, calling it Baker Street. Expect winding alleys of abodes and shoppes, and in the event of bumping into a character or two, do not be alarmed. It is no real ghost nor is it really Jack the Ripper, it's all courtesy of the Interactive Theatre pioneer, The Heritage Arts Company. Bizarre I know – but fancy that?

Lexi on the Run cinema is set to screen classic crime films ranging from Hitchcock horrors to the rather ridiculous Ghostbusters and The Pink Panther. The Alibhai Gallery exhibits all the art you could wish to meander among, including Lord Bingham's private collection. If you feel like a little art practical, well, Dr Sketchy's crew features burlesque life drawing classes – it's all about appreciation of the human form you know. If your creative passion leans more toward the culinary aspect of things you could head to the Baker Street bakery for food workshops lead by 2005 Masterchef Winner, and Wahaca founder, Thomasina Miers.

The onsite nightclub aka Camp Alcatraz, boasts a big dance line-up and at the end of Baker Street find Twisted Licks, renamed Baker Street Train Station, complete with Victorian boozer. The Crooked House stage is inspired by Cluedo and Agatha Christie, whilst the Book Club Boutique runs its own 'Speakeasy' area with Radio 4 resident, Salena Godden. Spoken Ink supplies cosy story telling with tales of horror for both the young and old. The Great Brain Robbery, Trepan Records' regular showcase event, brings you DJs, live bands and all things ludicrous and unlawful.

Cobden Club hosts the pre party come 28th May, and the line-up isn't looking shabby. Alongside the bands and DJs, you'll find the first episode of a production by The Heritage Arts Company, and the ending is found exclusively on the last night of the Standon Festival. Only in England will you find an affair so charmingly murderous.
