Holloway Arts Festival

Where: Various venues

Price: Each event individually priced

The eighth Holloway Arts Festival builds on last year's 8,000 performer strong, rip-roaring success, with an array of local and international musicians, artists and film makers taking to the stage at venues dotted about N7. This year there's a little bit of everything, from ferocious modern rock performances, 'have fun recycling' craft clubs, a Glam Hatter's workshop and an evening with Grayson Perry in conversation with Psychoanalyst Valerie Sinason. Head bashing rock, recycling, glittery hats and the musings of everyone's favourite political potter, so far what's not to like?

And that's not the half of it. Elsewhere on the bill there's writing workshops with independent book publishers the lovely Legend Press, a spot of shadow theatre, a chance to meet and great with local author Candy Gourlay, a Russian Futurist Opera, the finale of a female singer/songwriter competition and a battle of the bands. At the Boston Arms "mad poet and songwriter with a drunkard's voice and armed with something that could well be a ukulele"- Nigel Burch and the Flea Pit Orchestra round things off nicely.

The festival draws to a more family friendly close with an afternoon's worth of arty capers at the Big Day Out at Whittington Park. There's an interactive play about 1950's Girl Guides trying to gain their hostess badges, the wild balloon tamer Danny Schlesinger will be floating about and you can learn all about how to make a film in a day before settling down in the marquee to watch an entertaining selection of short films thanks to Reel Islington Screenings.
