Chocolate, Cheese, Supperclubs and Sunday Lunches - April's best Food and Drink events
27 March, 2012
by: Spoonfed Food And Drink
From pop-up restaurants to walking tours: our selection of the five best food and drink events taking place across London next month.

Saturday 7th April
Eighteenth Century Coffee & Chocolate Tour
£15, 11.30am or 3pm
Unreal City Audio consist of a team of artists, writers, historians and other creative types whose aim, admirably enough, is to “reinvent the London walking tour”. They kicked off back in February with an eighteenth century themed coffeehouse tour of the area around Fleet Street, and this April they're back with an extra special ingredient: chocolate. Dr Matthew Green is leading this Easter special, which includes cryptic egg hunts as well as free Georgian-style coffee and hot chocolate.
Thursday 5th April
The Roast Treasure Hunt @ Borough Market
£85, 11am
April sees the launch of a new monthly food organised by Marcus Verberne, the head cook at the ever-brilliant Roast down in Borough. Visitors are greeted with a glass of champagne upon arrival before being sent off to Borough Market with a shopping list, a list of suppliers and a budget. Having gathered all the necessary ingredients, you simply return to the restaurant and wait for Marcus to cook your lunch, safe in the knowledge that you've earned it.
From Sunday 15th April
Riverford Sunday Lunches @ Testbed One
£25 for two courses
This April sees Mark Jankel – who with Jan Tanaka runs the awesome Street Kitchen – launching a new series of weekly events called Riverford Sunday Lunches. Taking place every Sunday at cavernous art venue Testbed 1 in Battersea, the focus is on seasonal, organic British food with ingredients coming solely from Riverford Organic farms. Fun, friendly and relaxed – plus the sample dishes sound absolutely delicious.
Friday 27th – Sunday 29th April
Cheese & Wine Festival @ Southbank Centre
Free, 11am-8pm (6pm Sat)
Like cheese? Like wine? Then the Southbank Centre's Cheese & Wine Festival is the place to be this April. Not only are there stalls from a host of great participants – like La Fromagerie, Jamon Jamon (so good they named it twice) and the brilliantly named Outsider Tart – but a load of special events too. We're particularly looking forward to a cheese and beer pairing session run by La Cave a Fromage and the brilliant Meantime Brewery.
Thursday 26th April
April Supper Club @ Daylesford Organic
£35, 7.30pm
Daylesford Organic may be a a bit of a byword for overpriced organo-snobbery, but the supperclubs they're running at their Pimlico and Notting Hill farm shops this April sound brilliant. Three courses plus canapés for £35 seems pretty reasonable, and who could resist a seasonally focused menu that includes quail's eggs, steamed asparagus, rhubarb, and new season lamb with thyme Pomme Anna? Not us, that's for sure.
