Olympic supperclubs, global feasts and BBQ festivals: August's best food and drink events
01 August, 2012
by: Spoonfed Food And Drink
Anyone else not get tickets to Noma at Claridge's? Nevermind, let's just let it go and take a look at five of the best OTHER food and drink events happening in the capital this month.

Thursday 2nd-Sunday 12th August (Thurs-Sun only)
A Great Olympian Feat @ secret location, Hackney
£35 per head (including half a bottle of wine)
If you haven't been to this extraordinary supper-cum-cabaret club yet, we'd heartily recommend it. Artist Tony Hornecker has built a den of wonders in his Hackney home, an enchantingly haphazard space full of candles, dolls, glitterballs, vintage clothes and taxidermy. On top of a three course dinner (which isn't actually the highlight) there's hilarious Olympic-themed entertainment from resident tranny The Fabulous Russella and the Pale Blue Door chefs.
3rd-5th August
FEAST @ The Quadrangle, London Bridge
£7
From the same team who cooked up the insanely popular Long Table food market last Christmas, comes Feast: another massive street food fest held over the first weekend of August. Legendary gastro pub the Anchor and Hope, Barbecoa, Jose Pizarro, Moro, The Wright Brothers, Big Apple Hot Dogs, Hawksmoor, Yum Bun and St John Bread and Wine are just some of the vendors taking part. Cocktails will be provided by Background Bars and Ceviche bar The Last Days of Pisco (definitely our favourite pop-up name yet).
Monday 6th August - Saturday 1st September
Blanch & Shock @ The Endurance, Soho
prices vary
After years of cooking in tents, warehouses, offices, fields and trucks; ace food designers Blanch & Shock are opening a pop-up restaurant at food-savvy pub The Endurance, serving creative, sustainable British food. We were lucky enough to sample a preview dinner and can confirm it was utterly delicious.
Until Monday 13th August
Global Feast @ The Old Town Hall, Stratford
£55 per person
Set up by Underground Restaurant chef Kerstin Rodgers (AKA MsMarmite) this inventive supper club explores cuisine from all over the world, with guest chefs creating different signature dishes for about 80 guests each night, ranging from Eastern European to Korean, Thai, Japanese, Caribbean and Brazilian food.
Friday 17th-Sunday 19th August
Food Network On Fire Festival @ East Piazza, Covent Garden
free
Anyone actually used their BBQ yet this summer? We haven't but we might just save ourselves the bother and head to the Food Network on Fire Festival instead. Celebrating the best of BBQ and al fresco cooking, there will be loads of street food stalls serving grilled goodies, cider, sausages and cheese, as well as offerings from restaurateurs El Cantara, Barbecoa and El Fuego. Celebrity chefs will be on hand to give punters tips on cooking with fire and there will also be live music, local street performers and a cupcake decorating demo (natch).
