Peru voted world's best culinary destination for 2012.

This month the World Travel Awards capped off its year-long search for the world’s most popular travel and tourism destinations, the grand finale of which is often referred to as the ‘Travel Oscars’. The ceremony took place in New Delhi, India and was attended by the most important decision makers in the global travel and tourism industry.
Many awards were given during the course of the night with the 'Best Culinary Destination' category awarded to Peru. Hailed as a ‘gastronomic superpower’, the South American country fought off stiff competition from notable foodie destinations such as France, China, Italy, Spain and Thailand to come out on top as the best place in the world to eat.
While many of us are unlikely to be popping over to Peru for a spot of dinner any time in the immediate future, at least we can sample its food right here in the capital. Peruvian cuisine has been one of London's big food trends of 2012, with three new restaurants opening in the last 12 months alone, including Martin Morales’ Ceviche in Soho, Peruvian native Virgilio Martinez' Lima and Coya in Piccadilly.
