Wednesday 4th July
Independence Day Feast @ Ben's Canteen
Food blogger Adam Layton has teamed up with Ben's Canteen in Clapham to create a mouth-watering Independence Day feast. The menu consists of classic American diner and BBQ staples including pulled pork corn dogs, slow roast brisket and root beer floats. There will be big, boozy 'house party' cocktails served in red Solo cups, as many pickleback shots as you can handle and American punk and old school hip-hop music blasting out of the jukebox. Yee-hah!
Tickets cost £30 and include a three course menu, a ‘house party’ cocktail and a portion of Billy Frank’s original cheeseburger jerky.
Friday 6th July
Ugly Fish Friday at Whitecross Street Market
City caterer Lusso is staging an “Ugly Fish Friday Pop Up” at Whitecross Street Market as a stand against the fishing quota system that sees dead fish thrown back into the sea. Assisted by 'The Fisherman’s Apprentice' Monty Halls, and his fisherman mentor Nigel Legge, Lusso will be hosting a lunchtime pop-up stall at the market, serving a range of ugly but tasty fish dishes. All fish will be sustainable and landed by Nigel in Cornwall the day before.
The stall will start serving lunch from 11 am and will continue until they run out of fish. All profits are being donated to Monty’s chosen charity - The Fisherman’s Mission - which provides emergency welfare support to fishermen and their families.
Sunday 8th July
Daheim German breakfast and lunch @ G.Kelly Eel and Pie Shop
A one day pop-up cafe in one of the last original eel and pie shops in London, Daheim will be open for breakfast and lunch. The menu includes Reiberdatschi (thin röstis) with apple and rhubarb compote or homemade graved trout; savoury sauerkraut and mincemeat strudels with gherkins, beetroot salad and horseradish cream; Bircher Müsli; Flammkuchen (pizza bread topped with creme, speck, sautéed onions and chives) and Bratwurst with sauerkraut, mustard and bread. Food blogger Julia will be serving up all these goodies and more, with her dad's vintage German record collection providing the soundtrack. Sounds fun!
