Scotch eggs, street food and American Psycho: September's best food and drink events

Is it just us or are this month's food events unusually awesome?

14-16th September
12pm till 10pm
Bompas & Parr Mercedes Drive Thru Restaurant @ Selfridges
£10 on foot, or £40 per car
Those crazy cats Bompas & Parr have come up with another charmingly bonkers food stunt this month as part of London Fashion Week: a drive-thru restaurant underneath Selfridges. Located in the 40m long marble entrance of the Old Selfridges Hotel, it features a revolving restaurant, roller girls, light installations and an artwork with moving eyeballs called The Four Horseman of the Oesophagus. The menu has apparently been developed using research into 'the culinary implications of in-car dining' and will ‘push your cup holders to the limit’. Tickets are £40 per car (4 people max), or the carless can pay £10 per head and visit the walk-in restaurant.

15th-16th September, Saturday 11-4pm & 5-10pm, Sunday 11-5pm
Fifteen Street @ 15 Westland Place
£4
A massive two day street food party with lashings of gin, rum and tasty finger food, Fifteen Street is basically three awesome events in one. As part of the British Street Food Awards, a convoy of traders from all over Britain will park up on the cobbled streets of Hoxton to cook up a storm, including a horse box that bakes bread, a beach hut (with seagulls and sand pit) that serves fish and chips, and a telephone box that smokes fish. GinStock will take care of the boozy side of things on Saturday, as eight of the country’s best bartenders mix up gin cocktails in a head-to-head shake-and-stir off, while RumStock flies the flag on Sunday. There’s a grassy picnic area to relax on, plus DJs, live music, craft beer and bunting. Thank god they mentioned the bunting, we were beginning to worry…

Tuesday 18th September, 7:15pm
The Novel Diner’s American Psycho @ Shoreditch House
£35
“You're gonna have the peanut butter soup with smoked duck and mashed squash. New York Matinee called it ‘a playful but mysterious little dish.’ You'll love it.”

The Novel Diner has chosen American Psycho to theme this month’s dinner around and it sounds hilarious. Held in Shoreditch House (but of course), start the evening off with a cocktail and some yuppie-inspired networking. Guests should come prepared with their most illustrious business card – the owner of the most elegant font will win free tickets to The Novel Diner’s next event. ‘Dorsia’ restaurant will then provide an array of canapés inspired by Patrick Bateman’s favourite eateries, from Indo-Californian fusion, to peanut butter soup and sea urchin ceviche. There’ll be a bar stocked full of J&B, Champagne and Absolut, a reading by Bateman himself and a live rendition of his favourite Whitney Houston numbers. So snap on a Rolex, straighten your red braces and arrive at 7:15pm sharp; this is the hottest table in town.

Dress code: Eighties power dressing. (Elegant Navies. Subtle Plaids. Lotsa Beige. You know.)

Tuesday 25th September, from 7pm
Scotch Egg Challenge 2012 @ The Ship
free
The Ship is hosting its annual Scotch Egg Challenge this month, with 24 of the UK's top pubs and restaurants battling it out to be crowned champions of the becrumbed meaty egg. Inventors of the original Scotch egg, Fortnum & Mason will be giving talks and demonstrations, providing yummy chutneys and relishes throughout the night, while judges including Tom Parker Bowles, Gizzi Erskine and David Constable decide on the winner. Tough job! There will be no tickets, no entry fee, no reservations and as many Scotch eggs as you can eat. BOOM.

Sundays 9th-30th September, 9am-3pm

Sunday Service @ Dalston Roof Park
£8
Over four Sundays this month you can have breakfast in bed, on a roof, as French pop-up Le Petit Paris takes over the Dalston Roof Park, providing comfy daybeds, magazines, newspapers and music for that perfect chilled out Sunday morning vibe. For £8, breakfast includes freshly squeezed orange juice and the choice of either Marriage Frères tea, Allpress coffee or Banania iced chocolate milk, and a basket of hand crafted breads and spreads. Extras include burrata and avocado on toasted sourdough, eggs and smoked salmon, waffles, croissants, pains au chocolat, granola, cinnamon buns, blueberry muffins, teacake and milk shakes. You may remember the Dalston Roof Park from our summer comedy series. It’s a lovely space, with great views of East London, an astroturf lawn and a vegetable patch. On a warm day, this will be sublime.
