London New Years

by: Spoonfed Holidays

The definitive run down of where to be on the biggest night in the clubbing calendar.

Love it or hate it, New Year's Eve is the biggest night of the clubbing year. The one night of the year where it seems like the whole world has descended on London determined to stay up late, when London drinks all of France's fancy fizzy wine, snaffles the majority of Columbia's coffee, and spends exorbitant amounts of money in the process. With every club, bar, café, and living room throwing some kind of event it's difficult to know where to begin when planning your night out. Fear not though, we at Spoonfed are supremely qualified to give you advice on where to go. Here then we present our top ten New Year's Eve clubbing events.

secretsundaze
Smith and Priestly's summer institution is a true original which contrasts the dingy atmosphere of most daytime parties and still retains a considerable edge over similar efforts. Their NYE party is at night - but a good bet nonetheless. It's at one of the best venues in London: the Troxy. It's a Grade II listed building which first opened in 1933 as a cinema. The full line-up isn't yet announced but they've got Man Make Music curating room two and two secret headliners to be pulled out of the bag. Tickets are a very reasonable £14.50 if you get them early enough...

Eastern Electrics
Ohhhhh yeah...back in style - Eastern Electrics return for another NYE smash-down. This time, it's Laurent Garnier in the Bloc room who flies the flag for extra massive DJ star, with support from Tensnake and Mobilee queen Anja Schneider. The awesome Mount Kimbie are doing a live show, plus David Terranova - and it's at a new venue - the Coronet. Tickets are flying. Book now for cheapness.

Soulbrew
This is SoulBrew's eighth new year party and each one is eclipsed by the next. Joining residents Andy Bird and Spin doctor are the cream of the crop from the last years parties, headed up by the legendary Jazzie B, founding member of Soul II Soul. Added to that prodigious mix is home grown legend Ashley Beedle. These two are as comfortable spinning house and techno as they are disco and soul, so expect an anything goes night of dancefloor smashers.

The Doctor's Orders New Year's Eve Party
The Doctor's Orders, Big Chill House and Dephect announce their first new years party. Kings of London hip hop, the Doctor and his crew provide an consistently heavy nights featuring home grown hip hop talent. Tonight residents Chris P Cuts, Mr Thing and Kidkanevil will be on hand to ensure your new years is totally real. On mic duties making sure you do not miss the big count down is Iron Braydz, and keeping the winter chills away with a reggae and dancehall brew are Suspect Packages’ own Disorda and Serocee.

Tief NYE Party
Tief have been really ticking our boxes since they launched in September. High class house and techno, featuring everyone from Stimming to Tom Trago. Their NYE line-up is ffffresh. Crossover producer Scuba goes up against himself as SCB (don't ask us - just wait and see). Man who can do no wrong Joy Orbison is in the house, plus Will Saul (Simple), Wbeeza, Greymatter, Photomachine and more. Really good programming from team Tief - and an amazing bet as earlybirds are just a tenner.

Cable presents Faster NYE

Cable have stormed it this year, becoming THE club for DnB and dubstep. Tonight they open all three rooms for what can only be described as a drum and bass hoe-down. The line-up is great - bringing Shogun head Friction to show his mad skills, label mates de jour Rockwell and Spectrasoul, and team leaders from A Bunch Of Cuts: Marcus Intalex and D-Bridge. It's got longer opening hours tonight too - the smart money is on the early-birds - at £25.

Bugged Out and XOYO present

The "mutant dance music" rave that is Bugged Out turned 17 this year, and now feels grown up enough to hold a massive new years eve bash at its new home XOYO. The line up features a few familiar faces who've graced the decks at this year's best parties, including the absolutely brilliant Joe Goddard and the Night Slug L-Vis 1990 - who'll bring a darker edge to things. The gallery is hosted by two Dalston collectives: Disco Bloodbath and Legendary Children.

Fabric New Year's Eve
Fabric is a good bet for new year's eve. Tonight they open for an extended 12 hour session, welcoming old friends and new ones as Room One greets the emphatic newcomer Maya Jane Coles, Cocoon’s self confessed sound freak, Tobi Neumann and something of a unsung legend in Lil Louis, whose heritage and seminal ‘French Kiss’ record still stands out to this day in house music’s rich history. Residents Craig Richards and Terry Francis will be presiding over things with their standard excellence.

Electric Minds
Electric Minds announce their tasty looking new year's hoedown, with Appleblim - the bass pioneer who has just released a remix of Skudge's 'Realtime'. Jay Shepheard brings his live set to warm you up and label head Dolan Bergin backs him up. Room two is presided over by the Duff Disco.

Nofitstate New Year's Day

So this is being included because some of you hardcore duracel bunnies will still be dancing! And in any case, a loom at this line-up and you could do a lot worse than to pencil in a rave on the first day of the new year instead/as well as your eve celebrations. Tonight's fun includes German producer, musical tastemaker and master of 'deep' Move D. Plus Nofitstate residents and mulletover main man Geddes. They've also just announced Dirtybird's king of booty, the new kid who has risen to absolute stardom in such a short time - Julio Bashmore. Highly recommended.
