May Day Bank Holiday

May Day Bank Holiday

30 March, 2009
by: Spoonfed Holidays

Now that May Day weekend has cruelly passed us by, us Brits have no choice but return to our daily routine; i.e. complaining about our jobs and commutes, while looking forward to our next bank holiday. Thankfully in a few short weeks the wait would be over, and the Spring Bank Holiday would be upon us.

For a bit of history, the Spring Bank Holiday started as the Monday after Pentecost, and is known as Whitsun or Whit Monday here in the UK. However, The Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971, moved this bank holiday to the last Monday in May, following a trail period of this arrangement from 1965 to 1970. Now as riveting as this all is, the most important information is ‘What’s going on for the Spring Bank Holiday?’ Well here at Spoonfed we’ve chosen to highlight a few of the events going on that weekend, but if none of these are along your tastes, follow the link below, or use our nifty search tool to find an event more akin to your interests.
