St Patrick's Day London
Across London St Patrick's Day sees the streets awash with Guinness hats, shamrock green wigs, and tenuous ancestral links back to the island of Ireland. Historically an annual feast day in celebration of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, the religious holiday of St Patrick's Day has evolved into an all-round excuse to go out and have a jolly good knees-up.

Ireland may be the land of Joyce, Wilde, Swift and Spencer, but that's not really what's important for St Patrick's Day. On and around 17 March, revellers from across the capital, Irish or otherwise, will be donning their green attire, downing Guinness, Baileys and all manner of Irish whiskey by the bucketful, and probably overusing the word 'craic'.

The annual London St Patrick's Day Parade, which will take place this year on Sunday 14th March, starts at Piccadilly at 12 noon and moves along Lower Regent Street, Pall Mall East, Trafalgar Square and Whitehall before dispersing on Whitehall Place. Marching bands from each Irish county will join the parade, along with community groups, sports clubs, schools, street theatre performers and representatives from the Irish community in London.

As well as the parade, the London St Patrick's Day Festival will be taking place all day on 14th March. The event will include live performances from traditional and modern Irish bands at the main stage in Trafalgar Square as well as all manner of activities for the whole family.

These are the big main events, but of course, London is buzzing with all sorts of other events.

There's Irish stand-up comedian Keith Farnan's controversially titled 'No Blacks, No Jews, No Dogs, No Irish. All Welcome!'

Or how about a spot of Irish Music at the Irish Cultural Centre
