Carl Barât throws petrol onto the flames of a potential Libertines reunion.

Carl Barât has admitted that he will be ready to reform the Libertines in 2011. The tantalising admission – made from one half of the noughties’ vitriolic version of Cannon and Ball –came in an interview with the London Evening Standard. It is the latest in a long line of reunion rumours that dangles the carrot of inevitable disillusionment in front of their insatiable fanbase.
In the back-and-forth nature of all the Libertines reunion rumours, now is the turn of Carl Barât to pronounce that his industrious work ethic is the postponement of another Libertines reunion.
“It’s not a definite definite,” assured Barât about the return of the Libertines, but “if everything’s alright, then, yeah, it would be glorious to get on the old jacket and venture forth into the known.”
Pete Doherty was last to stoke the flames of reformation rumours in August 2009 when he confirmed plans to reunite The Libertines in time for the 2010 festival season. But Barât, with a debut solo album in the works and his acting career kicking off later this month in Sam Shepard’s Fool For Love believes this to be a premature prediction. However he leaves the door open for the rumour mill to whir again next week by mulling over the idea saying, “I can say 2011 but it’s hard to plan the Libertines until next Tuesday…”
Well Carl Barât, see you next Tuesday for a further update.
Carl Barât is appearing in Fool For Love at the Riverside theatre from 25th January.
