Happy Mondays reform for a 2012 UK Tour

You're twisting my melon, man

Almost one month in, and already 2012 is looking like the year we all get time warped back to the baggy era. Not to be outdone by The Stone Roses reunion, it seems like Happy Monday’s have now buried the hatchet and have announced an 11 tour UK date with the original line-up and, get this, support from the also newly reformed Inspiral Carpets. They’ll be reopening the Hacienda next, mark our words...

Without even the slightest whiff of irony, Shaun Ryder seems pumped up about the band’s first live dates in 19 years. "We all met up last week and some of the lads haven’t seen each other in over 10, 15 years. It’s as if we’ve never been apart" he told reporters, "we can’t wait now to get on tour and play the songs that made us famous." We guess that means that they’re not bothering with any new stuff, so expect to hear songs ‘Step On’, ‘Kinky Afro’, ‘Hallelujah’, ‘24 Hour Party People’ and many, many more.

Is anyone else starting to get the feeling that all this reform-mania is getting a bit ridiculous now? Yeah Rage Against the Machine and Blur was fun, but the more of these bands annouce their un-retirement, the more it looks like a parade of old boys looking for one last pay-check. It begs the questions 1) how long does this need to go on before we realise the barrel is being scraped and 2) when's the Aqua reunion?

The Happy Mondays will play the Brixton Academy on the 10th and 11th of May. Tickets are on sale from Friday. Check out GigsandTours for more info.
