Actor James Franco adds 'accomplished musician' to his ever growing list of accolades.

Kalup and Franco

James Franco- you may remember him from such films as 'That One Where He Cuts His Arm Off' and 'The Political One Where He's That Protester's Boyfriend'. Well you may not realise this but he's also a musician too and is releasing a three-song EP called 'Turn It Up' with experimental musician Kalup Linzy on 12th July.

It's not the first time Franco has stepped out of his Hollywood actor box. He's made himself known to the worlds of art, literature and academia- as well as co-presenting this year's Academy Awards Ceremony. This latest venture came about having met New York performance artist and drag queen Kalup Linzy in Miami two years ago. The creatively named Kalup & Franco as they decided to call themselves have worked together on a number of small projects together since but this is the largest scale exploit to date.

Dutty Artz are the label that have invested in 'Turn It Up' which has been produced by DJ/rupture. Sonically, they transcend pop-house, big band and of course the kind of experimental sounds you would expect from an avant-garde figure like Linzy at the helm. It seems to be a partnership that works bother productively and creatively, not to mention personally. Linzy has described their artistic meeting as being “like fireworks”- who doesn't like a bit of a bromance.
