Johnny Marr prepares debút solo release and announces first ever solo headline tour...

It’s not too much to say that Johnny Marr’s had his fingers in a lot of pies ever since The Smiths broke up all those years ago. Between session musician features for bands like The Talking Heads and The Petshop Boys and live stints with groups like The Cribs and Modest Mouse, the guy’s hardly been resting on his laurels the last decade or two.

Though we think that the majority of his output over the years has been excellent, we don’t think we were ever alone in our hope that the legendary guitarist would one day release a solo effort. This February it seems our prayers will have be answered, doubly so, as Johnny Marr not only releases his debút album as himself but also embarks on his first ever solo tour of the UK.

The long awaited album, released February 25th will be called ‘The Messenger’ and its title track has already been setting the airwaves ablaze. Following the album’s release Marr will spend the month of March playing a string of dates across the UK, stopping off at London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on the 15th of March before finishing the tour with a triumphant homecoming gig in Manchester.

Listen to the first single off Marr's upcoming album, 'The Messenger' below.

Tickets for Johnny Marr at the O2 Sheperd's Bush Empire will be availible from Friday December the 7th.
