US quartet to play giant Hyde Park gig.

Tennessee rockers Kings of Leon have announced that they will play London’s Hyde Park on 30 June.

The giant gig could sell up to 50,000 tickets, and will comfortably be the biggest headline show that the snake-hipped band have played on these shores, eclipsing sell-out dates at the O2 Arena in 2009.

One of London’s most beloved public areas, Hyde Park has become a feature of the live circuit in the summer months, hosting highly sought after acts such as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Blur in recent years.

The announcement is testament to the Kings of Leon’s meteoric rise from raw bluesy upstarts to stadium rock behemoths, with their last record, 2008’s ‘Only By the Night’, shifting over 2 million copies in the UK alone.

Bass player Jared Followill was in gushing form in a statement released, declaring: “It’s a great honour to be playing Hyde Park. It’s something that a band can only dream of”.

Clearly looking forward to what promises to be a one of the summer’s most enduring spectacles, Followill went on to encourage fans to “bring sun block and your earplugs”.

Tickets put on sale today, Friday February 19th, sold out in a matter of seconds.
